Battle of Wounded Knee...

Scrobs was going to do another musical post next, but time at a desk has been reduced as the knee is hurting more than somewhat!

It's no real big thing, but the smallest jobs take a lot more thinking don't they, so as it's on the mend, I'll start again!

I was going to make some reference to the real Massacre at Wounded Knee, but reading the Wikipedia section has further affected my dislike for the way that so many Indians were treated back then, (see Scrobs Passim - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_Massacre the illustration seems to have gone, but it's just a stock pic so not important), and my fat joint is not worthy of a comparison!

But anyway, the dog's been walked, the fire cleared and all is on the mend as expected!

Good to hear your knee is on the mend. We find that all the local pavement walking we've been doing during lockdown is harder on the joints than the walking we usually do.

Sorry to hear about your knee, and I have read "Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee" very depressing.

If you want to cheer yourself up, Tesco are doing a scotch egg quich now !

Thank you, Mr H! The dog tends to pull a bit, and the brick paths in the churchyard are so slippery, we can both be down at the flick of a switch, so she gets bellowed at...

I like your analogy of walking on grass etc. When we used to go to The Pinetum, there was a fabulous walk up across the top, which was an idyllic and easy-on-the-feet stroll, and we could control JRT better too!

Thanks, MrMc, it really is getting better, especially after a few tinctures this lunchtime, and a kip in the sunny conserv!

When I Googled 'Wounded Knee', I saw the references to all the songs, and felt so bad about it all, that I didn't click the links!

I'm in Tesco on Thursday, so will check out the comestibles! Some quiches can be too 'solid', but they do a nice light cheese and onion flan, which is better for oldies like us, well, me anyway!

Still playing your PG 'Flood' link, it really is fabulous!

I'm not one for causing trouble, but I've read a fair bit aboutthe original Americans. From what I've read the efforts of the incoming "civilised" Europeans simply accelerated the effects of the internal, intertribal savagery which had been going on forever.

Thank you, Pips - it's not really serious, but I've just bought some brass-cleaning kit for my drill, and am dying to get out there and clean up all the tarnished stuff!

(Every time I see the name 'Makita', I remember you buying some new drill kit)!

Now that is interesting, The J, because Senora O'Blene was muttering something similar only yesterday!

But did that sort of warfare happen in places like Australia, or New Zealand? It still does in parts of Africa of course, probably South America, and I fear for my chums in these places...

But I did Latin, not Geography for GCE, and only realised a month ago that I really should have done physics! (Senor O'Blene is 73; and ashen-faced)...

MrMC said...

I did physics and Latin (unfortunately).
All I really learned, apart from Boyles Law and Caesars Gallic Wars, was that physics and Latin masters are barmy, oh, and there is apparently no soft "C" in Latin, thus the German Kaiser, and the Icknield Way that runs past here from the Iceni.

Which makes me wonder how "placebo" should really be pronounced

The physics teacher used to do Dalek impressions, the Latin teacher was permanently on another planet.

MrMC, ah I well remember learning Physics at school which I hated but strangely always got good marks. There was Charles', Dalton's, Boyle's and Avogadro's Laws but I can't remember what they were about and wasn't there a Leydig or Leybig condenser? What about the experiment where you got a white sheet of paper and sprinkled some sort of black powder on it, put two magnets on the paper (one at each side) and you got some kind of pretty pattern. I never did Latin but got fascinated by the Latin names of plants plus learnt some more during my research into the history of Cockersand Abbey which Mr Scrobs knows all about. At least you made me laugh on a gloomy mizzling day. Mike, I'd come down and kiss your knee better but my back aches.

Cockersand Abbey ? hmmm I wonder how that got its name, maybe better not ask....

I have learned more about physics the older I get from reading books about the cosmos, I was not really interested at school, and while I still find the fine details bore me but the concepts eg. size of the universe (see my blog !) amaze me

We have got it back to front, all I was interested in was music girls etc but am much more curious now about everything than when I was at school, although with my memory now would stand no chance at O levels....

still fascinated about Cockersand Abbey though...

Goosegirl, with reference to your paper and black powder: iron filings I assume, a top physicist struggling to explain.... it is interesting:

MrMC, Goosey is actually in one of the pics of Cockersand, she liked the hat...

It's a verygood story that she's uncovered, and worth a peek - if she'll let you!

;0)

Cockersand, a goose and a hat, all the igredients of a fine picture, what could go wrong? a little punctuation error...

You ain't seen nothing until you've seen Goosey's hat!

She's a real charmer...

Prog legends Yes have released a new video clip of the band performing their 1983 hit Owner Of A Lonely Heart. The song, originally on their 90125 album, is from a 1991 show at the Shoreline Amphitheater in California on the band's Union tour.

Yesterday the band announced Union 30 Live is a 30-disc flight case style box set to be released on May 3 by Gonzo (with the consent of Larry Magid Entertainment). The set mixes a multi-camera shoot DVD with accompanying soundtrack mixed by Trevor Rabin from the Shoreline Amphitheatre on August 8, 1991 show. Also included in the box is a mixture of fan recordings, desk tapes and FM radio broadcasts and assorted memorabilia from what Rick Wakeman calls "the most important event in Yes history."

The Union 30 Four Vinyl Disc box set is also being released as a limited edition four coloured vinyl box set. The vinyl box set is a limited edition of 1,000 units all 180 gram, coloured vinyl, (different colour per disc - red, blue, green and yellow), full-size reproduction Union program, laminate, guest passes, plus the Mountain View live DVD, and numbered certificate.

Having had a well-deserved rest from lugging mega-loads of top soil and compost onto the garden I can now answer the various comments previously made about physics, the Abbey and my hat. It was iron filings but haven't looked at the vid as yet, and the Abbey's name comes from the sandy estuary of the River Cocker upon which it sits. Being a very windy place one has to have sturdy headgear so mine is tied on with a large piece of sacking. MrMC, you can have a peek at my Abbey stuff anytime you like and I won't charge you like I did Scrobs because he made rude comments about my wrinkly hosiery.
