Tinker Dill - R.I.P...

So sad to see that Dudley Sutton died yesterday. Of course, he was getting on a bit, and amazingly still working up to the end, but he was a treasure in our eyes, and we remember so much about him!

His character in Lovejoy was just marvellous, especially when he was with Chris Jury, but of course, when Ian McShane was in the scene, almost anything could happen, and invariably did!

Mrs O'Blene and I still say to this day, an immortal line from an advert for some long-forgotten product, where he meets his mates in a pub, with a wry smile, exclaiming 'She wants her bath oil', in that inimitable rounded voice which was unique to him!

We bought the whole set of all the Lovejoys a couple of years ago, and it is going to be such a pleasure seeing his antics again, when we start watching the screen in October.

While you're up there Tink, could you have a look at that fake angel please...

I saw that today and remember watching Lovejoy many years ago. I'm sure I've seen him in something much earlier but can't find it on Wiki but it may have been just bit parts. I can't say I was a fan but he sure was a good actor. May I digress for a moment please? I was watching an episode of Morse today where Lewis falls out with him over a case and the acting was so superb as it usually is between those two wonderful actors that the hairs stood up on my arms and I totally forgot about my cryptic crossword. He was certainly in that genre.

He was in an episode of Porridge once, and stole the show, Goosey!

We just adore the Lovejoy series, which actually went downhill a bit when Chris Jury left, but there is another anecdote worth recording.

Many years ago, Mrs O'Blene and I were on holiday in France, and on the long drive back, we played a cassette (remember them), of a Lovejoy, where it's all about the way Victorian children had to scuffle brick dust onto mahogany to bring out the shine.

Whether this is true or not is neither here nor there, but a couple of years later, we were visiting the old house on the James River in the US, where the governor used to live. It was a guided tour, and led by a wonderful elderly lady who seemed to know everything about woodwork - except brick-dustings by orphans...

Hmmm...

Did your correspondent tell a few little white lies?

Of course he did!

"Temporary judicial withdrawal of licence"! Thank you Mr H!

Only Tink could make that sentence work so well!

Thud, we both feel here that we've lost a true friend, and it's almost personal!
