Paul's early mobile...UPDATE...

I've only ever seen Paul McCartney in the flesh on one occasion, and that was a few years ago in Rye. He sometimes gets in the local pubs near here, and nobody really makes life difficult for him, (except possibly the local council, but they can piss anyone off at the drop of a hat), which is an agreeable situation all round.

He's done quite a lot for the local community too - especially the hospital, and he gets a good welcome generally.

When Mrs S and I were taking the air in Rye, up near the church where we were married ages ago, there was Himself, with a mobile glued to his ear, and not really making any issue with life, which made us all feel pretty good.

What really made me sit up though, that this picture here was taken years before mobile phones were invented, or even thought of!

Just shows what a few lyrics and a funny looking bass can do for one, and why not indeed...

UPDATE...While I'm up in the roof looking for Mrs S's MONO copies of her Beatles LPs, can we please just make this a general Beatles discussion, as it saves me all the hassle of thinking of another inane subject to bore everyone with?

This is all down to Lakes!

I thank you...

and have a nice day...

I worked for him a couple of times and he seemed a nice chap...if understandably trapped in a hippy timewarp...man,peace signs etc.

Interesting that Thudders. He lives in Peasmarsh, close to Rye, and uses the gym there sometimes.

A chum was in the changing room when he walked in, and instead of just ignoring my pal, he said something like, "Well, you probably know me, but what do you do"!

Good gentlemanly attitude that.

Also, his house isn't far from a house where my firm did some work for Mick Taylor. I went to see the the guy once, and he'd just got up at around noon...

What was good about that job was that we built a 'meditation room' for him, and while we were on site, I spent a very happy half-hour looking at all the gold disks stuck up around the walls.

'Begger's Banquet' was one of them...

...and I bet you used Norwegian Wood, too.

Ha ha ha Reevers - it was a bit like that actually...

Talking of setting fire to things, I bought 'Light my fire' by The Doors soon after that track you mentioned, and it didn't play properly, as it made the needle jump all over the place.

So I had to make do with an old penny sellotaped to the top and that did the trick.

I had an even better idea many years later...

I'm amazed they were doing advertising for a womens clothing store back then, I didn't know LTS had been going that long! I like their skirts but 36" is a bit too much for me in the trouser dept.

Good morning Scrobs.
I must say, how refreshing it is to read some pleasant comments about Paul McCartney.
For some reason he seem to get a bad 'press', some of it justifiable I know. He sometimes comes across as being a bit arrogant, particularly on chat shows, but in reality he really is quite sweet. I met him in the sixties and he was absolutely charming.
He was driving along in his Aston Martin, with his Dad. We managed to pull alongside him and had a chat. I told him that I loved his new record and he played it for me on his six track cassette player, his Dad glowed with pride.
So, there was I, sitting in traffic jam being serenaded by himself. Magic!
The record was 'She loves you'.
Ah, a truly golden moment in the life of Trubes!
When His beloved wife Linda died, he was knocked sideways.
Then, sadly, he fell for the charms of a one legged gold digger, who literally 'took him to the cleaners', much against his family's wishes.
He seems be happy again with a new lady friend, and I wish him joy.

I have seen the Beatles playing at The Cavern Club when they were almost unknown. In those days they had Pete Best as their drummer.
Soon after he was replaced by Ringo. The rest is history!
Poor Pete Best, ironically he was a much better drummer than Ringo.

Macca is mostly alright but I fear that Linda filled his head with a lot of foolishness. Surviving (or not) on bean sprouts and tofu does that to you.

Beggars Banquet is a very fine album, scrobs, only a short head behind Let it Bleed. Mick Taylor was probably very clever to leave when he did.

Y'know Pips, I'm really sorry to say that I don't understand you here...

Can you please enlighten me?

Trubes, that's a great anecdote about the track in the car! All I ever got was a wink from Kenny Lynch...

Heather Mills still lives round here somewhere, but if you have squillions from such a settlement, you can buy a big house with a few trees to keep away prying eyes can't you? And also you can keep in with the same garage, shops etc!

I reckon you should do a post on your Cavern Club visits - next one please!

Agree there Iders, and he does look odd in a three piece suit and mauve trainers.

But there again, I'd look like that if I had the dosh and it was a hot day!

I have 'Beggars Banquet' here in the roof too, which is a fine place to be stored but without a turntable at the moment.

I'm still waiting for enough time and patience to convert all my old music discs and tapes to MP3 (about 500 in total), and quite honestly, it is a job I'll probably never complete, which is a bit sad, as I'd like to hear 'Veteran Cosmic Rocker' by The Moody Blues again...

Log onto spotify.com, give yourself a name and password, and twenty seconds later you will be listening to that Moody Blues track, scrobs. I just checked, and of course they have it.

Investing in a decent set of speakers and a bassbox below your desk will help as well. I get by very well on a Logitech set here which I don't think cost more than £70.

I bought my son good speakers, with a base box. He's not 10 years old. It was a mistake.

A 3-piece suit and trainers? So rich. So cheap.

The one and only time I have ever seen Macca on stage was last year, when he played Anfield.

I went with low expectations (his voice has sounded pretty bad in recent years.)

I was amazed by his performance and the sound quality in general.

I could almost forgive him for being a militant veggie.

Iders, I do have Spotify here, but because I connected to them from both pcs here, I've mucked up the passwords (Chateau Peardrop...), and they seem to think I'm an imposter...

However, you're right, and when I get a moment, I'll do that!

Usually earphones though, if I try and insert another thing under this desk, the whole lot will blow up in face as I reckon there's about eighteen miles of cable, seventy plugs and three mics under there. There's also all the software boxes which get filed there(chucked), and a scarf and gloves for those cold days...

Pips, I thought as much...

BOOOOOM, BOOOOOM...

Lakes, I've never seen him live, but Mrs S has several MONO LPs from the sixties...

When there was a furore about one of the tracks being a second longer than some of the pressings, and therefore valuable, I spent ages rummaging around trying to see what they were on about!

So, before they become part of LakeTat's stock, with Dr Snerd's paintings of the Algarve and square hoops, I'm going to take another look in the roof, and may be some time...

Incidentally, when Hard Days Night came out, I really do recall being utterly blown away by 'I should have known better'; it really was a superb track - still is!

I've got some original singles on the Apple label. Somewhere....

Best luck with your search, if we don't hear from you by sunday we'll send in a search party.

Pips, i'll be in the roof, but somewhat upset that you're still 'going through it...'

That 'Help' track tells a huge story, and believe me, we're all in there for YOU and also some of the others whom we want to care about!

Keep fighting 'Our Kid' - you'll win out - I'm telling YOU! x

Thanks, Scrobs.

Hey, more accidents happen in the home and especially getting down from the loft - I hope you have a fixed ladder! Families need good fathers you know. Even if they do mean extra laundry ;-)
