Heart stops at 17mins 51secs...

Some time last year, I took a bit of flak from assembled correspondents here, for stating that I preferred later Pink Floyd songs to their earlier tracks. The comments were understandable, and my only defence was that most of their earlier stuff was produced when Scroblene funds were even lower than a turtle's waistcoat...

Late last year, a Chum gave me 'Live in Gdansk', by David Gilmour, and this has been an Ipod favourite from day one. It was so poignant too, that Rick Wright died just a week before the album was released. Watching the video of 'Echoes', with his beloved keyboard getting the full treatment, the atmospheric eeriness of the middle section gradually reduces the live song to an ethereal quality, which I really find quite disturbing.

But, at precisely 17mins and 51 seconds, David Gilmour's rapturous ringing reel just makes all the hair on the back of my head stand up on end, and the palpitations start!

So, if I start the track at London Bridge, there is usually a small commotion just after Sevenoaks, while a late middle aged rocker feverishly spins the Ipod dial to maximum, rams the noise-cancelling earphones to within an inch of severe aural disaster, and glazes over in a wash of pure delight...

It's just after a minute on this clip...

Sorry Scrobs, but the first half of that gave me a headache and the second half nearly made me doze off.

Chacun a son etc .. Must be getting old!

I could never stay awake on the train on the way home in those far off days. Sound asleep by the time we got the Clapham Junction until a particularly noisy and uneven points at the entrance to Chatham station woke me up.

Favourite album of mine too - for me the track HIgh Hopes (particularly the instrumental half of the track) blows me away every time - air guitar time.

It does get like that I agree Reevers!

Many's the time I've woken up to see my station name staring me in the face...

Once, after several sherberts I must admit, I'd listened to a particularly noisy playlist for an hour, and woke up not recalling any of the stuff!

That also included 'Sabre Dance' by Dave Edmunds, which for some reason always makes me smile as it's so joyful!

wv 'Thealc' - I kid you not...

Evening Tuscs, it has that effect on me too - pure nerve-ending rearrangement...

I just love the huge cheer which belts out at that reel!

Bunts, it wasn't epilepsy, it was chemical reaction...

High hopes is so good Fleeters.

That section is a master class in slide guitar. I also think 'Fat old sun' is just beautiful, there's loads of it on Youtube...

Just for the 'record', one of my all time favourite guitar solos is the section towards the end of 'Abacab' Live - from 'Three sides live' by Genesis.

The studio version was a bit ordinary, but the live version on this album is marvellous! Somehow, they all melded into a great sound for a few minutes.

I'm really not sure if it's Daryl Stuermer or Mike Rutherford playing, but the creschendo is utterly mind blowing to me...

I can gurantee that I'll play this at full volume whenever I'm on the Sevenoaks by-pass...

It's all benefited from some good modern technology. And it did get to me too.
