Some like it rather like Mrs O'Blene...

Mrs Scroblene (aka Ma'am O'Blene) and your old chum, Scrobs, aka 'Scrobs' or whatever, have just been seriously discussing a certain subject, which will enrage Grauniad, and other silly readers everywhere.

We're in our late sixties, and are hardly likely to commence a barnstorm for 'lefties' everywhere, but it has been a revelation for us both, as we decided to buy 'Some like it hot', to watch when the evenings draw in.

Mrs O'Blene, as fragrant as ever, just said that the final comment on the iconic film, from Osgood, saying 'Nobody's perfect', was a gay comment...

And we both agreed that we didn't have a cat in hell's chance of realising that back then...

I went to see the film in London when it came out, and remember asking two people in front of me, if they'd mind shifting sideways, as they were large (fat), and I couldn't see the screen, as most cinemas in town were pretty lousy anyway, and the seating arrangements were dire.

Anyway, for four and a half notes, plus PandP, Mrs O'Blene and I will be able to watch the whole film, in the comfort of our own tinctures, come our  44 anniversary years (October), and if anyone has any other flicks to suggest, we only need another tincture to consider them!

Enjoy... especially with something nice and chilled for the occasion.

The obvious antidote to your selection is "Ice Cold in Alex" which you can both enjoy accompanied by a hot toddy/cocoa -:)

We will Reevers, and thanks!

Interesting you mention "Ice Cold in Alex". I met Christopher Landon and his wife several times, as they lived a few yards from my parents' house, and one of their daughters was a nice chum at primary school in Rye.

When he published the story, a book shop, Gouldens in Rye, had both front windows totally filled entirely with copies of "Ice Cold in Alex", and we all marvelled at the reflected fame!

It is a damn good film, and one or two scenes like the landrover on the slope, and the swamp, still torment... The final lager scene often springs to mind on hot days too, as we have a couple of beer glasses just like the one John Mills slurps from!

I'll negotiate with Mrs O'Blene...

The Ealing Comedies, notably the original Alec Guinness "The Ladykillers". For me there is always "Zulu" or "Where Eagles Dare".

Demetrius - welcome!

How ever could I have not considered 'Zulu'! It's even mentioned in some sort of profile we need to fill in for Bludger, and having been a cadet with a cap with the famous badge of The South Wales Borderers, I humbly sit and ponder...

'Where Eagles dare' was a great film, and Richard Burton didn't have to keep getting friendly with any birds back then - he had enough on his plate presumably! (possibly at the same time, but I may fantasise...).

As for 'The Ladykillers', Mrs O'Blene and I were only checking the names a couple of days ago!

You don't live near me do you - you seem to know an awful lot..;0)

"The Man Who Would Be King" has a cracking combination - a Kipling story brought to cinematic perfection by Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Saeed Jaffrey and others.

Mrs H and I both liked Street of Shadows, Seance on a Wet Afternoon and Brighton Rock.

The Man who would be King is a cracking flick, Jannie, and thank you for that!

Kipling lived not far from here, at Batemans, and we've never ever been there which is a bit sad really...

Brighton Rock is of course, and icolic film, Mr H, the other two I'm afraid I've never seen, so will Gurgle at dawn!

Just for the record, 'Icolic' actually means 'iconic', but I didn't have the light on and my keyboard skills are roughly the equivalent of boxing gloves for delicate filigree carpentry, being worn in the shed - with the lights off...

This scene from 'Babe', still reduces an ageing Scrobs to a gibbering wreck...

Many belated congratulations.

I saw the making of about this film. That too was enjoyable.

I'd recommend; Les Visiteurs, Harvey and Hobson' s Choice.
