Finding my kit for HQ...

After some considerable work in understanding the odds, I have worked out that I would be the two-hundred-and-nine thousandth player to receive a call from Eddie Jones, to join the England squad at Twickenham!

It's not an easy time, sitting by the telephone, waiting for the call, which would mean that I would have to rush out and buy some new boots, some thermal vests, a reinforced jock-strap, and, a new leather scrum cap with chin laces, to replace the one my dad used. I'd also have to get up in the roof, to see if indeed, Mrs Scroblene had sent my shorts to the dustman!

I'd have about three hours to dubbin the boots and file the nails in the studs, but pride of pride, I'd still have my own blue and white socks from my playing days at Hastings and Bexhill! They were used for years and never wore out, such that both Yd and ED had them for Father Christmas's numerous visits, and they still bear the loops stitching from being hung on their beds! I still wear them in my wellington boots, so Mrs Scroblene might have to do a power wash and perhaps an industrial bleach!

It's an exiting time, and while the call-up may be a little time away, I'll still wait near the landline (he hasn't got my mobile number for some reason), and wonder where I'll put my glasses when I pull that white shirt over my greying head...

Is that Dickie Jeeps at scrum half? I think I was there, albeit on the South Bank.

It is indeed, Demetrius!

Looks like it is a late fifties pic, with the old North Stand to the left, and the old East Stand to the right!

I think I did see him in action in the early sixties!

OK guys, I'll provide the unending supply of chewing gum and volunteer to man the phones for the St John's Ambulance fellows who will undoubtedly be kept quite busy...

Oddly enough I caught a small item on Sky news this morning about Wellington School (and others?) being very anxious about potential injuries to rugby players as the game has become very wuff and nasty over recent years. I blames them unejekatid Ozzies for starting the downward slide - especially the rugby league lot. Terrible ruffians, the lot of them.

You're on Thud!

Pint of 'Elliman's Embrocation' would go down very well these cold mornings!

Interesting point you make, Reevers.

My old school used to have a 'needle' match with some rivals. The other school started to concentrate on sport rather than academic prowess, and 'bought in' new kids with sporting expectations. This resulted in a super-state school for sporty types, who were expected to play against weaker sides.

This resulted in a farce, and my old place simply stopped the fixture!

I know where my money would be in five years time!

Scrobs, perhaps some 'medicinal compound'

Have you tried running lately? I did briefly while pushing Granddaughter around the lawn in her buggy. Phew - not something I'm willing to repeat. Don't mind walking but running is out.

Oh yes, Thud, and you may not have much of it left after your awful time this week! Hope you're on the mend now!

Yes, I tried in the autumn last year, when trying to get the dog going on a walk...

God, it hurt!

I'm also not that steady on my bike these days too. Mrs Scroblene watched me take off (take off?), on a card bearing trip just before Christmas, and feared for my life apparently!

Might look at an electric bike - a step over/in one and consider what to do next...
