C'mon Popeye...

No, not the guy in the French Connection, but  the chap who went down to the allotment to gather several handfuls of spinach for a lunch to die for...

Shredded spinach, toms and carrots from the garden, grilled bacon, lots of croutons, and a couple of flasks of the old home-made elderberry wine!

Why on earth do people go away for their hols?

I've often wondered about the point of hols too. In a couple of hours I'll be off to walk the Derbyshire hills with a few old friends. We'll finish off with tea and cakes and a good long natter. The weather isn't too good but who cares?

Does that little meal come complete with Olive Oyl?

I go away on holiday:-
(i) to get away from the neighbours;
(ii) to broaden my horizons (and try to avoid 2 million Syrians on the road!);and
(iii)to spend my sprog's inheritance money while I am still young enough to do so...

PS: Many moons ago we discussed home made lettuce soup; the recipe also works well with spinach.

Because all you southerners stole our sunshine!

You have some of the best UK walks on your doorstep, Mr H.

One of the best being the one from the car park, to the bar in 'The Green Man' in Ashbourne...

Defintely some olive oil, Reevers, and it's also nice with a dash of Quiddity, which is a locally-produced sauce to die for!

Just been reading about lettuce soup! Might try that one day too!

Your sentiments re hols are probably the same as ours were some years ago, but we've got so much to do at this time of year, we couldn't even think of getting away!

If you'd have seen the rain we've had in the last week or so, Thudders, you might think otherwise!

We even got soaked this morning during a trip out, and everywhere's sopping wet!
