Don't fear The Reaper...

We've been watching the TV programme 'The 70s', recently, and despite the usual anti-right whinges the BBC usually manage to inject into most progs of this type, they do have some pretty good archive material.

The latest episode began with this this iconic song, and I suppose, when it came out in 1976, it was a good subject to ponder with a young family, a new house, a new job, and only married a few years as well...

Sorry Scrobs, never heard of them and I found that effort both tuneless and boring. Must be getting old!

I spent 1976 living in the desert miles from the nearest civilisation with a group of Septics and our access to then current pop music, or indeed music of any kind except that which we made ourselves, was somewhat restricted. Happy days actually!

Iconic indeed.

RVI - You have to hear the studio recording.

Yes, a good tune but it needs more cow bell.

You're absolutely right Elecs, the studio one beats all else!

Reevers - please go and buy the record...;0)

Reevers, do you really mean Septics...?

Scrobs - I shall begin saving up for it tomorrow.

Septics - rhyming slang for septic tanks = yanks. Good blokes they were too. Hope that helps.

Never heard that one Reevers!

See Lils' comment and wonder too...

Hiyaaaah Pips!

It's called - er - 'Don't fear the Reaper', by Blue Oyster Cult, and it was a seminal sound from the seventies, which I always liked, and had to play again here!

Nice to see your name in lights again!

Ooooooh Lils!

That is sooooo funny!

I was too dim to know the 'Cowbell scenario' back then (Internet not invented...), but the first Google post came up with a superbly funny clip!

Thanks so much, I think that's one of the best scenes I've seen for months...;0)

When I copied and pasted Lil's link, my McAfee site advisor appeared and screamed at me in big red letters:

" W H O A !!! You sure you want to go there? When we visited the site it displayed one or more signs of risky behaviour".

Whatever can they mean?

Sen. C.R.O'Blene said...

Ha ha ha Reevers!

I hope you laughed as much as I did though, I mean music; well, that's risky innit...?

Oh, and men making a joke too!

Yup, Scrobs, Lil and Kev, I did enjoy it. I had not realised previously that cow bells might be considered as musical instruments. I actually have a couple lying around somewhere which I bought in Switzerland many years ago. Wonder if McCartney could write a sonata or two for the instrument?

Chris Walken portrays nasty 'orrible wicked villains better than he does record producers though (imho).

Thanks, Scrobs. Can't remember how it goes :(

Another top tune scrobs.

Scrobs...my own tiny contribution to music can be seen over at my place...don't laugh too hard, I'm much better with a hammer and chisel nowadays.

Thud!

Marvellous stuff, and looking at the comments, there's quite a lot to Google here!

Is this true? "Band may release a new single "liverpool pure" in 2012"

Definitely not laughing Sir, I love it!

Pity John Peel isn't around as well...

Scrobs, ta for that! My brother in law is putting a single and album together as a project for his college students so at sometime this year new (old) stuff will see the light of day. I'm trying to get hold of a live gig at the london ica that peelie broadcast, he was rather generous to us....all done for fun as it beat getting what passed as work in early 80's Liverpool.
