Hen Wlad fy Nhadau

Hen Wlad fy Nhadau

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion enwogion o fri
Ei gwrol ryfelwr, gwlad garwyr tra mad
Tros ryddid collasant eu gwaed.

Gwlad Gwlad,
Pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau

I'm not Welsh, but you have to admit, that they sing this pretty well...

My dear old mum was English, but had a Welsh christian name - a version of Elonedd. When she died in March several years ago, we had spring flowers on the coffin, which of course, were very seasonal.

Just as they were lowering the coffin into the grave, one single daffodil fell out of the wreath, and finished up lying across the brass plate inscribed with her name.

Nice touch that...

A lovely story. I'm sorry for your loss, Scrobs x

Nice touch indeed.

I've a feeling I shan't speak to my Mum ever again.

Having fallen out with my Dad I am not allowed contact with her. (Nor is my brother)

He's like that. "A friend of my enemy IS my enemy." One of his many cliche's.

Because if him she's spent much of her life ostracised from her own brothers and sisters - even when her mother was dying she was 'allowed' to visit but was badgered continually to make her way home even before her death,

"She's had her quota of time from you. Now I want my wife back."

Sorry to spoil such a sweet post.

Kev, she's an adult. Let her know you will write to her? And that she can write to you or phone you?

Phew! For a minute there I thought you were congratulating the Welsh rugby team on their performance last weekend!

We all lose our mums at some point, don't we.

RIP to yours and mine.

'fraid not. You don't know my Pa. A very domineering and manipulative character and very spiteful. He will distort the truth completely to always put others in the wrong.

My Ma is no longer an 'adult' in the true sense of the word - chiefly because her confidence and independence were eaten up decades ago.

Horrible to say but she's had her chances and we're not offering to innitiate any more.

Made her bed so to speak.

Sorry to hear that, Kev :(
