Ed...thanks!

As most people know, the Scroblene PC is dormant for many hours of the day, as there are too many other things to do.

But while Mrs S is perusing 'Larkfield to Quatermass', I've got a free rein...

Ed, has posted a superb recall to 'your correspondent's' mind here : -

http://edclarke.blogspot.com/2008/02/central-office-for-information.html

and it's well worth a check-out, mainly because

A) I can remember coppers being like PC Edwards,

and

B) my Grandad built lots of buildings in Letchworth and Welwyn Garden City in the twenties, and he may have well liked to read this.

For people of my (lack of) seniority, it's like a different world. Where did we go wrong?

Ed; no problem with seniority, just read the runes - you've done it so well!

Went wrong about late 60's I think, after all the potheads became 'important'!

Interesting items via Ed Scrobs: I remember clearly when we had Policemen on the Beat. The Country was a safer place in the 50's and 60's.
Even our local Parks had a Special Policeman or 'Parkies' in attendance.
My brother once got a 'clip round the ear' from the local'Parkie' for giving cheek. When he told our Mama what had happened, he got another one for good measure.
If that happened today there would be litigation, compensation, and an apology for assault on the injured party.
My brother was a typical 'Just William' type boy and required frequent chastisement for his mischievousness. From all accounts he resembled Electro Kevin, as a lad. Same brother grew into a respectable courteous chap without any mental scars from his 'childhood abuse'.

Hope your cold is getting better Scrobs.

Trubes, so nice to hear from you again!

Park keepers wore hats then, and couldn't even spell compensation let alone ask what it was.

Your brother was like me I hope, always buggering about, making things and watching them fall apart. If he is like Elecs, then the world is a much better place!

Serious dysenterial pneumoniacal tubal gunk affliction is way past it's worst thanks m'dear; Mrs S is coughing politely though, but she has a stronger constitution than me and just eats Anadin and gets on with it...you girls eh...;0..)

How does Trubes know what I looked like as a youth ???

I used one of these clips on my blog. Staggering stuff.

I grew up in Baldock and letchworth and remember all the local bobbies. They were a friendly lot who were always treated respectfully.
I am 42 so it was still a nice place through the 70's and early 80's
