I'm posting this from a windswept campsite in the west midlands, however I'm sitting in a nice warm motorhome, thanks to a diesel fueled heater. Tomorrow (assuming I've survived the promised heavy rain) I'll be heading back home. I expect to have covered around 350 miles in total since setting off on Saturday, which means I will still have another 100 miles worth left in the tank. Now imagine if this was an EV - quite apart from there being nowhere to put a damn great battery pack, and that this 3 ton van would then be closer to 4 tons - I wonder what effect an electric heater would have on the range? This one will run for 16 hours on a gallon of fuel at full power - that's 32kWhr, or roughly half the capacity of a typical EV battery pack!
I'd hate to be stuck on the A52 in a snowstorm, suffering from a defunct battery, and thinking that many of my taxes were going on paying the charlatans who are being paid for this fiasco!
Akshully, we've got an electric car and it's great. I often tell people about it...
It's an attractive little four seater, easily does 80+ on the motorway, range is over 400 miles on a run and you can recharge it in a couple of minutes. You can take recharge cans with you too so you can top up without a recharge station. We've had it several years and it only cost £600 on Ebay !
'Course it's not actually electric (except for the lights & stuff). Otherwise it couldn't do any of this and would cost a fortune :-)

I'd certainly buy one of those. Can't wait for someone to invent it. A nice warm heater for winter driving and it would be perfect.
