Lazy river...

It's almost exactly sixty years since this song was so popular!

A young Scrobs was heading west to a new school, already homesick, and this song kept coming on the wireless about now...

I found myself whistling the tune the other day, and didn't put two and two together for a while so I suppose it's the combination of a little more daylight, daffodils, fresher air and the possibility of all this covid stuff nearing its end, which reminds me of back then!

I didn't know that Bobby Darin was only thirty-seven when he died; he was a fabulous singer, and seeing his notes, a superb instrumentalist as well! One of his backing band was Roger McGuinn, who founded The Byrds, who are another band I doted on in later years!

  1. Just a note, MrMC, your link isn't working at the moment!

Might be a glitch, or the thought police have caught up with you - again...

  2. I sometimes have moments like that. A tune heard during certain times of early life. Sometimes I'm mildly horrified at how far back my memory goes these days. Not last week though, that's faded already.

  3. Some songs are like perfume that take you back to when life was carefree and full of sunshine. "Are you going to San Francisco" is one of mine as are some of the Beach Boys and the Liverpool Sound" groups. There are more but I can't remember them!

  4. Yes, Mr H! Senora O'Blene and I are becoming more and more aware that most of the friends and relations we chat about are all in their seventies, and we've been talking about them for over fifty years...

  5. Nice analogy, GG!

I still have one of those tiny sample bottles of cologne, which my dear sister gave me when I was around twenty!

That certainly takes me back to first meeting The Senora!

And definitely The Beach Boys too! I bought a single 'Here today', purely on the strength of a few fabulous keyboard bars in the middle (Amin - E)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef9zt8aCRQo&ab_channel=TheBeachBoys-Topic around 2.14!

  6. Scrobs: Waaay back when, on the strength of "Green Onions" I bought a Booker T and the MGs album. It was the most boring, repetitive thing I've ever heard!

  7. Didn't they do a tune called 'Down Slim Jenkin's place' or similar?

A good chum gave me his copy of Steve Reich's 'Drumming', but I've lost it...

He said it was just too boring!

  8. I like Darins version of Mac the Knife, and from a similar era currently listening to Louis Prima (I ain't Got Nobody)
