Electro K Bass 2...

Electro Kevin kindly asked for a few more pics...

Of course, I'm a shy and retiring man, and not looking for acclaim. I only spent four months making this in the shed, where there is now about three inches of sawdust all over the place, so I'm not proud...

Oh alright then! Just this once...

  1. Do you make plucked keyboards too S?

  2. Do you mean a Virginal HG?

While I'm on, would you mind popping round and see if they've built the new hotel next to the new car showroom, on the Industrial Estate opposite the Harvester pub please. It should be up the Northern end, by the row of tall trees which mask the houses there.

I don't want to drive all the way there, and find it's been done!

Thanks very much, you're a kind soul!

  3. You have an impressive piece, Scrobs. I hope you have time to twang it.

  4. Ten years and you'll have made your own orchestra...

  5. Yes, or any of those keyboards; plucked strings make beautiful, elegant sound shapes, not the jagged patterns from hammered strings (this displays the level of my grip on the physics of sound, never mind its vocabulary) but, it was explained to me, that's why our ears are always pleased to hear guitars etc.

'I don't want to drive all the way there, and find it's been done!'
What's been done? Are you from the Ministry of Demolition? Could we meet up as there are one or two things I'd like to point out.

  7. Timbre may be the word you're looking for, HG.

  8. I heard somewhere that a piano is classed as a percussion instrument by virtue of the fact that the strings are struck.

  9. HG, There are many buldings on my list which are seriously underdemolished! Sorry to say, I'm not in that game, hence I still have my kneecaps, and don't need a rottweiler in the van...

No, I'm a simple developer, and was looking at the site some time ago for a hotel! However, you tell me what needs knocking down, and I'll give you a few numbers...;0)

I don't really understand the physics of plucking strings, but what you say makes sense.

Bryan May often uses an old sixpence, this is pretty small and intricate to wield. I think the texture he gets from guitar, combines the standard plucking with an occasional additional 'touch' of his palm, or hand, and this really does produce some stunning effects!

  10. Mutley and EK,

It took about three months, but was really a winter job to do while there's bugger all to do in the garden!

A chum says I could put it on Ebay, but why; as I've always wanted a bass guitar, and now I've got one, and it cost me nothing!

C by Insoc, you're right, but what I really, really do want is a Midi Guitar, which you can record direct to a PC on, and make all the sounds you'll ever need!

Oh blimey, I'll have to work till I'm 103 at this rate! So no change there...

  11. Is it alright if the first nomination for demolition is a hotel? The Holiday Inn in Coram street WC1 needs to be replaced with a structure for sheltering humans.

The Galleria on the A1M (but you know I'd want that), replaced by the sky it has gobbled up.

Euston station, all of it. Replaced by the station knocked down.

But these are monumentally vile; on a more intimate scale, the University hall of residence wrapped round Mary Ward House so that it can hardly breath, in Tavistock Place. Replaced by Mary Ward House gardens.

I'm not going for anything huge, like the Chiswick flyover as that would cause inconvenience.

  12. If you are into plucked strings HG try Toumani Diabate - New Ancient Strings...sublime Kora.

A friend of mine is making an electric Kora.

Well done Scroblene! Could you make me a banjo?

  13. HG, the posh architectural press or building gurus regularly have lists of buildings to go.

I agree with you about the Galleria, and also anything which has interfered with the old London squares.

I would also take out the entire South Bank Complex, anything by the 60s/70s concrete cuddling maniac Erno Goldfinger, and that damn great concrete lump in the sky near London Bridge, which is going anyway, but 'soon' is not enough.

The winner would be the white hotel in Folkestone harbour which is the most ridiculous waste of buiding materials ever devised.

I've long said that we should bang up any designers/architects for their past mistakes. That would be immediately after all their 'work', had been demolished and the hardcore given to charity...!

  14. Lilith, I'll make you anything you want! These arthritic limbs are there for the taking...

I'll listen to the strings you mention too, as I've never heard of them.

Somehow these two actions seem intertwined like the last line in a novel which will never be published...

  15. Buildings to go? So they're built of polystyrene with lids on. Thought so.
