It's a sound which is unique Thudders. I like Bill Bruford's drumming too, (I think he's on this track), and he did a great solo album years ago, which still survives!
And Pips, the 5.15 is the time in the recording, where the guitar is played, probably with a bit of fleshy palm damping down on the strings, and that sound - to an aging rocker like me, is just perfect!

ReplyDeleteAs for the Austrian March, well, it has to be said that it's a stirring piece, and probably the least known name for such a common bit of music.

ReplyDeleteI bought it as a single 45 (hmph), and have always loved the drumming intro, the guitar bashing, and in fact the whole shebang!
The extended version is better, because Jon Anderson, keeps on singing different lines, and it goes on for ever.
I love it, and will - in honour of you, get the CD out, and play it non-stop for the next three hours!!!
