This is a real favourite of mine,, and I'd like to dedicate it to Mrs Elecs, who is a lovely lady, and can bring beauty and grace to any post!

  1. Thank you, Scroblene.

How lovely of you to dedicate that to me.

    xx

(At least someone appreciates me !)

  2. Hey Pauls (sic) - you're a Star on this circuit!

Kevin is a favourite of everyone, and he always puts You (and your Boys) first!

Somehow, the song's later bits about turning into the bay etc, etc., just made me think, well, I rowed a boat - er - once, and who do I know who's just wone a huge prize for something like that!

And of course, you'd already done all that! Lucky you with such a fine Man!

My rowing days stopped after one session with Bexhill R.C. After that, I just melted into the background, and played rugby...

    Lovely to hear from you!

    xxx

  3. Congrats on your recent accolade, Paula. Every time I see your pic I think I must get fit. And thinking about it is a start.

Liked the song, Scrobs. I have green eyes :-) I do tend to nod off before the end on that one though. Snuggly record.

  4. Hi Pips,

That song was around when I first got engaged to the future Mrs S, and I taped it on a reel to reel machine from a pal's LP!

I just love it, especially the guitar on the studio version!

CS and N were great back then, they were heroes after Woodstock!

"(checks that he put them onhis profile...)"

  5. I always fancied the little fat druggy, Scrobs. 4 way street was their best I thought.

  6. Ahh that was sweet of you Scrobs.

  7. Hey Pips, now...Four Way Street eluded me for financial reasons, i.e. I couldn't afford it!

I'm still 'peeeritty seuuuure' (spoken in a Welsh accent, like Clive someone-or-other - Union Leader, now long gone), that there was a song on the album, which was being played in a record shop in Ashford, Kent in or around February 1982, when I wandered in to see if they had any deals on and found they didn't!

I remember saying something silly like 'This is Four Way Street isn't it?', and the girl nodding, bored, uninterested...

I never found out what the song was actually, or even if it was on the album, but it was definitely C,S and N, and now I'm at a total loss...

    Google/Youtube/Itunes here I come...!

  10. Nice tune. I must say that that Guinevere sounds much different from her namesake, King Arthur's wife, from the 1960s production of "Camelot" who by all accounts was a bit of a goer! In the words of the song:

    Oh, they found Guenevere
    With her bold cavalier
And as swords rang through the hall
Lance escaped them, one and all

On a day dark and drear
    Came to trial Guenevere
Ruled the jury for her shame
She be sentenced to the flame

    CHORUS
    Early dawn was the time
She would pay for her crime
    Or would Lancelot reappear
    Come and rescue Guenevere?

    SOLO
I'll wager the king himself is hoping he will return
Why would he have chosen five AM for the queen to burn?
When the world is black and gray, what time would be more ideal
    For Lancelot to steal Guenevere?

    CHORUS
As the dawn filled the sky
On the day she would die
There was wonder far and near
    Would the king burn Guenevere?

    SOLO
Then suddenly earth and sky were dazed by a pounding roar
And suddenly through the dawn an army began to pour
And lo, ahead the army, holding aloft his spear
Came Lancelot to save his dear Guenevere

    CHORUS
By the score fell the dead
As the sky turned to red
    Countless numbers felt his spear
    As he rescued Guenevere

In that dawn, in that gloom
More than love met its doom
    In the dying candle's gleam
Came the sundown of a dream

    Guenevere, Guenevere
    In that dim, mournful year
Saw the men she held most dear
    Go to war for Guenevere

  11. Reevers - when Lancelot cuckolded his friend, with Guinevere, he also caused the Lady Elaine to die of a broken heart :-(

  12. Reevers - that's quite a lot of verse! Thankyou!

I still think that Richard Harris was better singing Macarthur Park though...

Still tingles the corps and cards...

    Gonna blog it.

  13. Pips; you're good at this sort of thing...

    Emotional songs to listen to?

    I'm starting soon...

  14. Pip: Quite so. The Idylls of the King was part my O level literature exam all those years ago.

How the old order hath changethed since those days!

  15. Scrobs - hmm I will think on and do some reminiscing.

    Reevers - :-)

  16. PS: of course 'Patches' is the gut-wrenching appeal to sobbery of all time. So over the top I always laugh like a drain throughout.

momma knew what we were going through when she painted our heads purple and I used to get up half an hour before I went to bed and then one day a strong rain came and washed grandma and her wheelchair away and papa said 'Patches.. '

  17. Killers, they were indeed splendid bergonzers, much admired by most, and often discussed at various establishments where the debating society's subject was "Whither bergonzers..." and some blade yelped 'VIRGINIA's', and brought the house down without a vote!

  18. Patches was indeed dire Pips!

Did you ever hear 'Deck of cards', by Wink Martindale?

It was 'covered' by Max Bygraves, so perhaps you can see where I'm coming from...

    I'll search for the link...

  19. Yeah I stuck it out til 1:40, Scrobs then had to turn it off.

Here's a few faves of mine that you've probably seen on my blog before:

here and here and here and here

    and one for me.

Incidentally, Judie Tzukes daughter, Bailey is good too. Here's my fave of hers.

I didn't think you'd go for the bluesey stuff I like. Hope there's something in there you like :-)

  20. Pips-adoodle - Interesting choices...

Sandy Denny has to come second to Judy Collins I fear - I've been a fan since the sixties...

Prefer the Bailey quiet version to the club mix - I used to know someone like her and instantly - er - recognised...

Martha's Harbour has an interesting middle section, I've never heard it before either!

  21. Incidentally Pips et al, can I assume that I'm the last bloke on earth ever to have discovered 'Freecorder'?

I'd never raid the coffers for music - (much), but the downloads like Youtube can be saved and just about sate the requirement for a bit of free listening.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, you big sweet softy Scrobbers...:-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Freecorder? Um.. did I miss something??

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Pips, it's a free programme, which you download as a Taskbar. You can then record any video or music from - say - Youtube, and save it on your computer.

I've done a few, and also emailed them to others, and it seems to work fine!

    Of course, it's free too!

Go to www.freecorder.com, and download it for free. Watch out for it wanting to change your home page etc, as it'll try to do this, but once installed, you can temporarily delete it from the top task bars by right-clicking and un-ticking it...

I got 'Greyhound in the slips' by 'The Joy Formidable', (right noisy stuff and fun too...)and sent it to my work pc, then copied it on to my Ipod, and it is pretty good!

Proper clever little techie twit aren't I...

  25. Crikey ! Haven't seen Killemall around for a long time !

Nice post, Scrobs. She has such a big head now.

  26. You certainly know how to make a lady feel special.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Elecs, ...she looks very much like Mrs S, and therefore, it stands to reason that she's a winner in my eyes!

    You're a lucky Bloke!

As for Killers - well, I agree; when he (or she...) comments, well, the world stands still!

  28. Elle!

    The Great Elle!

    What a scoop!

Good to see you here, because you're a bit of a legend, I can now sleep at night...

    Not...!

Come back to see my old musings any time, I'm here for the duration I can assure you!

    Can't stop now!

  29. Lils - you know how soft I am, but I'm still trying...

Glad to have you back here - I've missed you Gal!

  30. Thanks, Scrobs.

    You have an ipod?

    I have a Sony Walkman :-/

  31. Pips, it's a Nano, a present from Mrs S's Mother and is one of the titchy ones!

It holds just enough songs to keep me in train journeys for a week, and definitely isn't up there with the mini 'Leicester Square Empire' ones which play surround sound and can hold a squillion films and three years of quadrophonic HD sound in glorious technicolour...

Here's a note from 2007, which explains my late development more than somewhat...

  33. I have a Betamax vid in the loft and I was thrilled to hear my friend found something he'd been looking for - a 71 yr old TV. He's fully restored it; original valve circuit, new components. All working now. I'll be visiting soon to watch it. Sounds daft doesn't it - driving miles to watch someone elses TV? Such are the pastimes of interesting engineers.
