I once 'won', well - was runner-up - in my village single-wicket cricket match in Sussex. The pub was heaving from the collected throngs, and I was presented with my medal by the famous Howard 'Hopper' Levett, who lived a mile or so away, and knew many more stories about Fiery Fred!
This revelation from Michael Parkinson, with the incredilbly deep John Arlott has made my day!
