New Year common sense...

  1. Does this work with bourbon? asking for a friend.

  2. Yes, certainly, Thud!

In fact Bourbon is slightly better, as it has an analgesic effect, followed by acute narcosis, which is a good thing at this time of year!

  3. Yes, I quite agree with Scrobs as the sight of a few narcissi in flower brings such good cheer to you especially at this time of year.

  4. Sounds like a reliable test to me. Our Christmas ale should be a useful way of confirming it.

  6. Happy Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Sorry it's belated.

I had a harrowing incident at work just before Christmas which was my fault and I've been put on meds. They've worked - I'm up and at 'em now. I may be facing early retirement or a sideways move over my 'senior moment'. An honest mistake but the latest of a gradual build up of much lesser ones.

It's the nature of the job, I'm afraid - it's always a fluid situation and (unlike a typist who can use correction fluid) anything I do wrong makes the news. At least I reported myself over it rather than try to cover it up, which many would have. My guard was a young lad who's just joined the railway and his career is more important than mine, so that was one consideration.

  7. Narcissi are indeed a perfect start to the year, GG.

I wonder how eating daffodils works in quite the same way as knocking back a couple of Jack Daniels, though...

  8. Christmas Ale is a superb alternatinve, Mr H!

The ABV is usually much higher in such beverages, therefore, the cure for the Covids is likely to be much better received!

Excellent choice, and I wonder why I hadn't thought of that one myself!

(Actually, San Miguel was so cheap in Tesco, a couple of dozen cans just fell into my trolley - an occasional triumph for the high-shelf-stackers, especially the one with the gorgeous legs - one of the reasons I buy so much)!

  10. Kev, this is not the best news you could have to deal with, and my concern for you and all the EKs is prominent in my thoughts!

As would be expected, you clearly played a straight bat, and I hope the consequences will not affect your immediate future.

    Best wishes chez Scrobs!

(One above - spelt my own bloody name wrong)!

  11. Scrobs, my little jest re- narcosis and narcissi seemed to have slipped through your net - DOH! EK, wish there were more good and decent chaps out there like you. I really hope things turn out ok for you.

  12. Wise words, Scrobs 👍 (hic!)

Best wishes for a good outcome, Kev 🚄

  13. GG we have our first daffs in jars as we speak! None of them are showing signs of narcosis - yet...

Agree about Kev; he’s one of the good guys!

  14. Pips you lovely lady!

Thank you and I hope all goes well for you this year!

  15. Hi Scroblene

I enjoyed our chats on the other place but as you may have seen am now extremely annoyed and as far as I am concerned they can get on without me

I consider I did not deserve what was said but will not ever win and really they can be as bad as those they criticise...

    anyway kind regards

    A

  16. Darcy, I missed all that - and reading back, still can't understand what all the fuss was about! We all rant there, usually with some justification where the awful BBC is cncerned, but I can see why you're so cross, so stay along here for a while.

I was rather enjoying our 'snag' chats, early most mornings, and as nobody else was ever about, I'd have thought that a bit of light banter as we're all waking up (here, in the UK that is), would bring some light relief to many! I didn't even realise Doobs worked for a local authority, so felt a bit mean, and also felt that Seppers was right to call me out on a generality, whereas, I was really aiming another barb at the BBC.

I hope you'll change your mind soon. I actually got annoyed once on a gardening website FFS, where some geezer pissed me off very badly, but after a day or so, cooled down and went back as if nothing had happened!

Until then, keep in touch here, and thank you for even bothering to explain, I was going to write via Ebay at some stage, but didn't want to raise your hopes on that fabulous Chinese guitar!

My grand-folks built a lot of Letchworth and Baldock in the twenties, and started in Stevenage! You'd have passed the house my grandfather built, as it is the twin-gabled white hous, on the left near the bottom, about three houses up, going into Letchworth via the Baldock Road. http://scroblene-webley-bullock.blogspot.com/2014/10/staircase-story.html

They also had a shop in 47, Leys Avenue, which he extended several times, and a workshop and yard in Commercial Avenue behind the main street (where the supermarket is now).

Keep in touch any way you like - there's always a place to chat here - when I can think of a decent subject that is! Best wishes, and thanks again!

  17. Hi Scrobs

it is that upsnuff person that called me a
    "resident troll"

when fedup saw the thread said nothing about that but criticised me

I realised, maybe they do not like bad jokes, or sausage stories or whatever

    ReplyDelete
  18. I so suspect that it maybe related to number of likes

My work in local authorities has always been a problem when i get things done, i was actually lectured about opening a youth centre in 6 montha and told never to do that again make it longer

  19. Dear Boy... it is so good to know you haven't been blown away like last summer's fallen leaves. How are you doing? Is the device still keeping your bowels open? Don't over do it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Happy to discuss sausages, cheese and guitars

Sausages and bowels do not mix, not in my world anyway, maybe in HMS prisons

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anon3...
    (sorry, missed all this yesterday)!

I re-read it all, and just don't see the problem with the guys there!

We all post links to this and that, and why everything blew up is a mystery! You could of course, change your account (easy on Google), and start again...:0)

I still go there, of course, because the issues are so real and have to be monitored, but it ain't the same now!

As for guitars, check out Thud's site. Somewhere in there is a post where he made a fabulous guitar, from scratch, and his daughter plays it pretty damn well! You may have to go through the archive about three years ago - I can't find it at the moment!

  22. Corin, my dear friend! Yes, the device still works well, despite failing its MOT last November, and needing a new solenoid in the diverting grommet!

Do you realise that on this particular post, we have four of us from the original crowd that used to gather on the same site and make mayhem! Those were the days!

I was going to write a new post about something or other, but will leave this one up for as long as it takes, as the banter is re-emerging, and I have all the time in the world!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The world I work in, dealing with angry, upset people at the highest level, and working to formulate official responses demands that I thorooghy investigate motives

it can be quite enlightening, believe me when one drills down

in this instance it is the politics of envy

    ReplyDelete
  24. For example, a bleeding transport minister complaining to me about a road blocked

and it transpired that he is unable to spot a diversion sign

    ReplyDelete
  25. And was 30 minutes late for his appointment BEFORE he encountered the signed diversion

motive ? anyones fault but his

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ministers are pre-programmed to be a bit stupid, D3, they're born with the affliction, and there's no cure!

Luckily, you#re able to tell them where they're wrong, but they'll never believe you!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Not quite as bad as councillors, little Hitlers and as for Parish Councillors please don't go there, but. diplomacy is all which is why I sometimes let off steam on bbbc but take care to not attack others or if out of order am the first to apologise unlike others

as you said, not quite sure why a witch hunt was conducted and my response with anglo saxon was a resignation just restraining myself watching the echo chamber with little independent thought but cannot stop when I see those using my turn of phrases and criticising people for the same behaviour they display

sorry but cannot stop myself for some aposite comments here and there

anyway am thankful I have met such as you

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anon: Parochial Parish Councillors...have driven some friends out of our village. The most vicious underhand kind.

    ReplyDelete
  29. EK I'm so sorry. I have meant to dig out your email and this has spurred me....will drop you a line once the dog walked xx

    ReplyDelete
  30. D3, you're always welcome here! Just for the record, Lilith and I have some sort of 'form', when we were chatting on line many years ago, as totally different people than we really are, and making life absolutely hilarious in the process! We even met once, with our respectives, but sadly, it was in a rotten time for Scrobs Inc, and things weren't very smooth, to say the least! (Bloody Gordon Brown and Campbell buggering everything we'd achieved), but that's water under the motorway bridge! Retired now, and blissfully happy with just the two of us here in sublime oblivion to everything outside these four walls!

And I'll think of more reasons why some councillors piss me off, but in fact, I can't discredit most or ours, because they're really pulled their fingers out to help people under the covids! That doesn't mean that Kent County Council still have a lot of explaining to do after letting their 'chief exec' go, with a meagre £425,000 payoff!

Says it all. That's why I apologised to Seppers.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lils, they damn well can muck so much up if they try!

As said to D3, I reckon our Chairgirl has been pretty damn good at her job here, loads of volunteers, lots of messages and help where needed, and total support (with TWBC) on everyone's behalf against the huge, disgraceful plans being debated to turn us into a town!

    Bastards!

BTW, how's the azalea? Your version is so much better than ours! That came from the Pinetum...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I suspect there is a mathematical relationship between parish councillore et al and reality / the bloody obvious and it is inverse

I have been the recipient of numerous calls last two nights with people kept awake by roadworks, people crying the answer ? work days instead of nights

NOPE lets have a few meetinga about it which I will be attending this afternoon and saying nothing as I cannot trust myself

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tempted to put the cat in charge of the lapatop, and Zoom, we may get something done about dog shit

    ReplyDelete
  34. Second thoughts no, got three solicitors bills already about trespass from the black cat up the road and the ginger cat next door

and some rather large bills for cat biscuits

Call me paranoid if you want but I have a suspect in mind

    ReplyDelete
  35. BTW lack of sleep, compensating with etoh I meant what I said about calls all night as for cat looks perfectly innocent but anyone that can lick their a@e and look at you at the same time has to be suspect munber one

    ReplyDelete
  36. And they got what they wanted in the end on bbbc a witch hunt

    ReplyDelete
  37. whilst I may rant about processes in government etc i take care to be polite to people and yes i have overstepped when poeple argue with me but that is their choice, to engage or not upsnuff and SG wanted me gone and am gone

I try to be kind, others dont if I wanted I could make their lives a living misery with my contacts but choose to let them get on with it, but that bloody upsuff I am still considering how to deal with that

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sorry I've not been by and thanks to all for their concerns. I'm absolutely fine, if a little too care free at the moment ! I've just been out walking the dog, exercising and taking time out of news and internet.

    Wow.

I've not been on shift for over four weeks and it feels wonderful !

Thanks Lilith and I hear you've have very good news about your daughter, Pippy. You have every right to be very proud.
