After a few tinctures...

So what's all this about blogging?

I just love talking to friends that I'll never meet personally (unless they make a special effort, like a certain lovely lady, and her biggest chum, from the West...) but with whom I can carry on a perfect discussion, rather like a fleeting meeting at a business function, or even locally in a pub; and we can therefore generate a bond.

Everyone who bothers to read the Scrobs gibberish automatically becomes a friend to the 'man' himself (just in case someone believed that Lilith correctly scavenged my name from the blogosphere, and I'm definitely not Kylie, well, not the last time I looked...), and I would be heartbroken to lose contact with anyone who ends up here!

What bothers me is that somehow, there could be the possibility that I'd lose my good friends; most of which are listed on the left of this post, and I'd feel pretty bad if anyone left.

This script is written after several tinctures with Mrs S, (we do this as a standard - after 37 years, it becomes a pleasant interlude) and comes with the very best intentions to love and like just about everyone who visits here!

  4. Although I am not listed on the left or right or anywhere else either, may I just say that your gibberish is remarkably fluent - even after a nip or two.

  5. My sentiments entirely, dear Scrobs;
Talking to Blogging chums is a lifeline to me, particularly,
as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and, am not always as mobile, as I would dearly love to be.
It is chucking it down with rain and DT has cancelled his golf, so, we're all 'cosy toes' and enjoying the comforts of our home.
This of course includes, Princess Chloe, the very spoiled Cat and Chico the verbose Cockatiel, who is absolutely besotted with DT.
It seems we have a Gay Parrot!

Sunday roast is served at 2pm pronto...Don't be late!

  6. If I am remote it is because I am learning to use my new Blackberry. I am downloading my brain, and whilst doing that only takes a second, retrieving it can be more of a challenge :-)

    Yours truly

  7. With you there, Scrobs. Actually what I find is that in 'real life' (but I am really here and typing this - the keys don't work through alien mind control. Well I don't think they do but it's a good excuse and I'm using it) where was I? Oh yes, in real life one tends to be terribly polite and not really get to the nitty gritty. One tends to meet mothers at the gate who bitch about husbands (haven't got one) and talk of foreign holidays (don't have those and wouldn't want to go where they go anyway) and they look at me with a mixture of amazement and amusement as I relate what I do and enjoy in response to their polite enquiry (tow a caravan to places for hols and take an interest in religion and politics and history) and then watch them walk away together sharing smiles like they've just seen a freak show at the fair.

They are mostly a product of geography. You are someone I genuinely like.

  8. Blues - that's the right thing to know - thanks.

    And likewise of course!

  9. Mutters - you're on!

    Um - which Royal Vic...?

  10. Thudders - it has to be like that doesn't it!

I was sorry to see a couple of names closing their door; rather like a chum moving away for good!

  11. Reevers, you are automatically a Friend and Rel, and if I could remember what RVI stood for, (even if I knew originally...), I'd somehow get your name in the list!

Gibbering is a pastime best undertaken after a sherbert of three...

  12. Trubes, we had a cat called Chloe too; several years ago now...

The girls nicknamed her 'Chloard', after some kids programme kept saying that everyone was 'well hard'...

A good chum also has a cat called Chico, and he's nearly the size of a small house too!

Sorry about the RA, that's a bugger and it's unpleasant - but I'm glad we all chat like we do, especially after the occasional foray away from the disgusting politicians we have to endure. I've just seen Alan Johnson on tv, and total idiots like him are all we've got until next summer. it's pathetic!

  13. Lils, you are not remote, just in the next room...

Love the Blackberry analogy, I think 'Downloading my brain' is a subject worth a huge blog post, will you do it please?

  14. Pips, that statement about geography is very profound!

If any of us who post here were neighbours, then there's a reasonable chance that we would probably get on pretty well.

What I like is that with the few hours a week which I spend on this PC, talking to people who have become friends, in reality, I don't have a clue as to their circumstances, apart from what they choose to tell everyone, and that it is friendship by distance. Which is exactly what you've descibed!

I'd prefer doing your lifestyle than that of the silly old women you have to endure at the school gate. The Poppets have got a goodun with you!

  15. Killers, that's true, and although we're always partial to the medicinal purposes on regular occasions, the Scrob brain operates a tendency to approach the opposite of sleep deprivation...

    I.E. Crashoutment...

Not regularly, just when it's required!

And I have to stay awake for the new TV prog (Garrow's Law or something) this evening, as I like something good on a Sunday eve, and so does Mrs S!

And also I've got a car park scheme to do a budget for tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to that...

    I really am!

  16. It's quite an easy and undemanding sort of friendship really.

    The best, I suppose.

  18. I think Philipa has it right, and I have often thought of my blog buddies in the same way. Most people we know we know because we have been in the same place at the same time and had the good fortune to realise that we are of similar outlook. Blog buddies are even better because a) we are not limited by time and space b) we have longer to develop friendly relations c) we aren't hidebound by our usual judgements of class, age, etc..

    Hope that makes sense.

  19. Yup Elecs - easily a good way to like people.

    Spotted That Man!

  20. Awwww thanks Reevers, I really did forget, and am truly sorry!

But you're not really idiotic are you...

  21. Blues, that makes complete sense and I think that is what I was trying to say!

One or two names were disappearing from the ether, and Cranmer's sad bit was a concern - not that I read his post every day, (there's no time), but it was OH who alerted me to do something, which I felt I could.

Big deal eh - the 'Mighty Scrobs' bringing the guy back from the brink...naaaah, I just felt for the guy!

And I try and do that for everyone who may need an old grey (whistle test of a) head to moan at, - blimey, I've done it enough times!

I reckon we all do pretty well here, and I love that!

Believe it or not, I've just emailed a guy I was at school with in 1958-1961. I'd never been in touch before, but his name popped out on an unrelated search, and I just sent him a big hello!

He replied instantly (from Mexico!), and is delighted!

Now, I've trawled old photographs I have and found one of him in 1960, which he last saw in - er - 1960!

I can't wait for the response this time!

And so we're all chums here, and some are prettier than the others, especially after seeing some of the pics...

  22. Well I have a face for anonymous blogging. If I posted photos, screens would be cracking up and down the land!

Blue : Idoit? Well, twixt us, I do indeed do it, but not very often you understand; only when there is an "r" in the month etc...

On the other subject, I, and all the others concerned, am still in touch with several of the lads I were at skool wiv in the 1950s. Course, now we are all old, balding and wizened, and mostly retired and "sponging off the workers" as others on different blogs see us retirees, despite having put in the better part of 50 years of sweat and tears for the country. Tant pis, je m'en foue these days.

  25. Isn't it odd? I've been busy busy and not doing the rounds: and I've felt guilty about it, turning up to comment after a long absence is as embarrassing as seeing a forgotten friend. Must try harder!

  26. Recidervers - ers -ers..., It doesn't really matter, we're still trying to wonder how much longer we'll have to work, and giving up on ten or twelve years!

  27. That's nice to hear Apricers!

Luckily, there's no EU CCTV camera where we keep the 'Codarone'...

  28. Tuscs, you are as welcome here now as you've ever been!

I like the Honourable Member for Italy South arriving with the inevitable Continental flavour of someone who can still make a few quid in this appalling financial climate - and well done to you Sir (as long as the dosh keeps coming in...)!

Hope Small Tuscs is doing well!
