In loco - er - Wilson Street?...

After a rather heady lunch yesterday, (some would say 'Hero'), when I finally dragged myself up the stairs in our chosen establishment to scamper down to Cannon Street and hence The Weald, this small comment arrived by magic...

To my friends who enjoy a glass of wine.. . and those who don't.

As Ben Franklin said:

'In wine there is wisdom,
in beer there is freedom,
in water there is bacteria'.

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 litre of water each say, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) - bacteria found in faeces.

In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of crap.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whisky or other booze), because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Resuming :

Water = Crap, Wine = health .

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of crap.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information; I'm doing it as a public service, but having read Idle's post this morning, I'm beginning to think that I'm losing my capacity...

And also seeing Killem's result on Tuscs', I've just recalled talking in some detail about a certain Russian lady yesterday, who seemed to take over the whole event!

Scheme me up Botty...

  2. Hi Lils,

Yer right, we've used a jug filter for years now, and the kettle is as clean as a whistle all the time (except when I'm boiling up some old vino to get the last of the alcohol condensed...).

Sorry to be tardy on your site of late, I somehow lost the customiser thing, and some details didn't seem to work...

  3. And think of washing. I'd just got out of the shower, what do I wash it all off with?

  4. Well, Tesco do a nice unrepentent little white Burgundy Hats, or maybe a tablespoon of Grappa enriched with a litre of water squeezed from a freshly picked melon...

Seawater is really the best, as you can have as much salt as you want without having to hear a health warning!

  5. Verily, in vino veritas...

In this neck of the woods (not, I might add, Worksop as some would have it, and for whom I am singularly unqualified to speak) my in-line water filter is changed weekly, but it changes colour from dazzling virginal white to yukky mukky brown within 20 minutes as the outer layers get coated with a slimy gooey liquidy substance as the water passes through. Nonetheless the local water company assure us regularly that it is perfectly safe to drink. When it leaves their quite modern processing plant that may be so, but their pronouncements seem not to take account of the mud, rust, earth etc to be found in their leaky 20+ year old pipes twixt there and here. So water in this house is always boiled and filtered before it gets anywhere consumption.

PS: Did you have a glass of water with your heroic lunch?

  7. Reevers, luckily I forgot, but does it count that the person next to me had some bottled stuff...?

Understand about your aging pipes, 9not yours, I mean the water co's).

The gunk that comes from our taps here in The Weald can be depressingly metallic, and also furs up the system somewhat, but that's our fault with zinc/copper joints...

  10. Morning Thudders - I sincerely hope the Thud household gets a family discount!

We discovered Fetzer several years ago, and never looked back.

  11. Pips - three litres through a filter jug would save you a fortune on the bottled stuff!

Keep it in the fridge, and no, I don't believe you're full of the other stuff!

How dare you sir, leave us teatotalers out of your wicked head line,I much prefer tap water with all the meat/chemicals in it than the water thats supposedly clean, how do you know the filters work, how do you know it's clean, besides ours comes from Welsh Wales in new plastic pipes etc,so there.
