I've pondered about this, DJC, and think you are correct.
Just recently, I've been doing a bit of Google Earthing on some places, and indeed, in black and white, they seem more 'real'.
I once went with Senora O'Blene on a long weekend in Belgium, and we drove through these villages, which of course have all been rebuilt, and I wonder still, whether I should have seen them in the dreary grey, dirt and devastation of such a lovely part of the world.
Would have been better in my opinion without the colour and sound.
